Extraordinary Young People
Vancouver, WA
CEO/President
Position:
We are a Christian non-profit organization looking for a President/CEO. The President/CEO will oversee and carryout all organizational operations of Extraordinary Young People (EXYP) including board relations, program planning and development, human resource management, financial management, fund development, and tribal relations. The right candidate must have the skill set, dedication and calling to ensure the ministry adheres to its' foundational beliefs, and core values; accomplishes its' goals and objectives.
Mission:
EXYP has made it our mission to reach our most hurting and underserved young people, to bring restoration and wholeness to their lives. Our mission has led us to provide hope and healing to children and young adults ages 6-21 living on Native American reservations.
Background:
This non-profit organization was founded in September 1999. It began as To Shine Too, serving disadvantaged kids and young adults in the Portland, Oregon-metro area. It was during these developmental years that we honed our Christian mission and learned what we do best as an organization -reaching kids in their comfort zone through music, art, and sports-related activities. In 2003, two of the organization's most valued supporters urged us to investigate the desperate plight of children living on the region's most underserved Native American reservations. We found that many of these youth grow up in broken homes, surrounded by alcoholism, drug use, poverty, crime, and depression. They live in desolate communities, with virtually no supervised, regularly scheduled youth activities during evening and weekend hours. They're looking for options to break the cycle of restlessness. They're looking for role models to help unearth their buried dreams. Their obvious need was a perfect match for our mission and our unique youth programming model. We followed God's calling and began working to establish youth centers for our region's most hurting Native American youth. EXYP has developed a strategic plan for growth over the next decade.
Qualities and Attributes :
- Strong, mature Christian that not only believes our statement of faith, but also lives it.
- Work, specifically this work is more than a job, it's a calling.
- Has a heart, a calling for Native American people, especially kids.
- Has long, verifiable, successful history in working with indigenous peoples.
- Previous work with tribal governments, tribal politics, strongly preferred.
- An understanding of native culture and tradition, preferred.
Manager:
- Is a great manager of people.
- Not easily discouraged, perseverance is one of their greatest attributes.
- Extensive background in working in and with diversity; enjoys it, finds it of value.
Skill set:
- Can build and maintain a great work environment for staff and volunteers in the field and in HQ
- Understands youth ministry and native ministry both, has experience and background in both
- Great external and internal communicator
- Strong public speaker
- Strong operations and organizational background
- Is a strong strategic planner
- Works well with boards and committees
- Is a great recruiter, manager of staff in environments that are sometimes difficult
- Human resources admin., understands the basics of it
- PR background that could be focused on increasing the awareness of the ministry and native issues
- Believes that running a disciplined organization is important
- Budgeting and financial management experience, understands and has worked with financial statements, cash forecasts etc.
- Proven track record of success that shows EXYP that over the next 10 years, we can develop the ministry into a regional/national ministry
Personal traits:
- Will stand up for themselves and/or the organization when necessary without hesitation
- Has a strong work ethic
- Leads by example
- Is teachable and able to accept correction
Fundraising
- Is a great fundraiser who is not afraid to "ask"
- Is a great relationship builder
- Has experience in establishing regional/national donor relationship bases
- Must be a great local fundraising committee builder
- Has extensive experience and success working with foundations, corporations, churches,
individual donors, local fundraising committees, fundraising events, direct mail, etc.
